Greystar Selects Site Security Systems to Provide Solar-Powered Thermal Monitoring for Major Student Housing Project at Ole Miss

Oxford, Miss. — [Oct.  8, 2025] — Greystar, in partnership with The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), has partnered with Site Security Systems, a leading provider of construction site security and remote monitoring technology, to protect and oversee its large-scale student housing development in Oxford, Mississippi. The project is one of the largest public-private housing partnerships in the university’s history, and will add more than 2,700 new student beds, and marks a major step in modern campus living.

To enhance jobsite safety and visibility during construction, Site Security Systems has deployed two solar-powered poles, each equipped with bifacial solar panels and dual thermal cameras. These advanced units deliver 24/7 monitoring, intelligent motion detection, and real-time alerts, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the expansive build zones. Additionally, the company is providing floodlighting on the job site for added security and visibility.

The bifacial solar panels provide continuous, sustainable power to the cameras, eliminating the need for external wiring or generators while maintaining uninterrupted operation — even in remote or off-grid locations. The thermal cameras enable full visibility in total darkness and poor weather, helping prevent theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access throughout the construction process.

“The new student housing project at Ole Miss represents a significant investment in the university’s future,” said Carter Allgood, Project Manager at Greystar. “Because of the scale and visibility of this development, jobsite security and efficiency are critical. Site Security Systems’ solar-powered thermal cameras give us reliable, real-time monitoring that enhances safety, reduces downtime, and protects both our equipment and our schedule.”

Located across two main zones, the former Kincannon Hall site and West Row across from the law school, the Greystar and Ole Miss housing development will utilize modular construction methods to accelerate delivery and maintain quality. With hundreds of workers and heavy equipment on site daily, the ability to monitor the site remotely is a major operational advantage.

“We’re proud to help Greystar secure one of the most important university housing projects in the Southeast,” said Wayne Davis, Chief Operating Officer of Site Security Systems. “Our solar-powered poles combine energy efficiency with advanced thermal imaging and smart analytics, providing 24/7 visibility without relying on grid power. It’s an ideal solution for large, complex projects like Ole Miss where continuous protection is essential.”

By integrating renewable energy with intelligent surveillance, Site Security Systems’ solution reduces the project’s carbon footprint while maintaining high standards for site security and operational reliability. This collaboration demonstrates how modern construction monitoring technology can protect assets, ensure safety compliance, and support sustainable development goals.
